I’m With Nature

What an amazing celebration of our environment World Environment Week at SPJE was. Looking at the statistics below it is plain to see that we care very much about the world we share with each other and millions of other species. A massive thank you goes out to the Environment Student Action Team who invested a lot of time and effort to create and man the activities that our school so whole heartedly took on board. This week was a wonderful example of our school community coming together to achieve something wonderful.

A Friendly Visit

We were very lucky today to be in the right place at the right time. After we had finished our SAT meeting, busy planning World Environment Day, we happened to pass these wonderful critters and get the chance to have a pat. Not every day you get to visit the locals!

Our New Veggie Patch Garden Boxes

The Environment SAT team’s first job in term 2 is to get started on creating new garden planter boxes so that we can make our SPJE veggie patch even bigger and better. Mr George purchased the boxes and we bolted them together. You can see our wonderful team work in the pictures below. It was quite an effort to get it all done in one lunchtime. Soil is still to come!

Our New Fruit Orchard!

SPJE Has a new garden! We now have a fruit garden complete with orange trees, lemon trees, mandarin and plum trees. It is located just over the hill near the chicken coop. We had so much fun planting and we look forward to our SPJE fruit market when the fruit trees begin to bear fruit.

World Environment Day at SPJE

World Environment Day Success!

A great big thanks goes out to all who participated in World Environment Day at SPJE. We raised nearly $500 in gold coin donations which the Environment SAT Team will use to create our square garden – we will keep you posted with updates as we go. Thanks also to the many classes who participated in the celebration, many braving the cold to venture outside and say prayers, go on bug hunts or do some sketching. Here are some pictures from the day.

World Environment Day Friday June 5th!

imgres

On Friday June 5th SPJE will play our part in World Environment Day. the Environment SAT Team is encouraging you to be involved in three ways.

1. Bring a gold coin and wear something green e.g. a hair tie, bracelet, cap etc. The money raised will contribute to the development of the square garden which currently lies bare between the office and the junior building. We will be contributing in a tiny way to increasing biodiversity and at the same time making our school look even better.

2. In your class register an activity for the day. There are lots of things you can do, a bug hunt, some art about the environment or watch a wildlife documentary.

3. As an individual you might like to make a pledge to do one thing to make a difference, for example, you may pledge to turn the lights off when you leave the room, eat vegetarian for a day, not use wrappers for lunch, re use water bottles rather than purchase water drinks etc. Tell us your pledge by making a comment on this BLOG.

Thank you

Environment SAT Team

Gallipoli Oak

Dear All,

The Environment SAT team has planted the Gallipoli Oak tree that was given to the school at our assembly which commemorated 100 years since the landing of ANZAC soldiers at Gallipoli. We ask that students are respectful toward the tree as we are with all the plants and animals that we share our space with. We had a lot of fun digging the hole and planting the tree. We hope that it will grow big and strong and symbolise our respect for the ANZAC soldiers well into the future. The Oak tree can be found on the oval embankment beside the stony path up to the top area.

We have some new arrivals…

Welcome To Our Feathered Friends!

They are here! Four new chickens have filled out their enrolment forms, and met Mrs Bast and Mr Scutt. On Friday last week they arrived and they have already layed some eggs. You are welcome to pay them a visit – just remember they are new you need to look at them quietly from outside the cage until they settle. Don’t yell at them or chase them through the wire and they will feel right at home.

Next, they will all need a name, we might have to talk to the Environment SAT team about that. Teachers – you might like to pay them a visit!

Thanks to Mr Sartori for bringing them here!
